How to read this page
- Amount owed is what the court says the borrower owes. Bidding usually starts near it, and the winner pays the bid, not this number.
- Worth about is our estimate of the house’s value, starting from the county appraiser’s number.
- Debt that stays is what the buyer still has to pay after the auction. A bank foreclosure wipes out smaller debts; an association foreclosure leaves the bank’s mortgage in place.
- Room for profit is the worth minus everything that stays, and most you should bid also takes off the fix-up cost, closing costs and a safety margin.
